The Klein Competition Board of Directors plays a vital role in shaping the future of one of the premier platforms for emerging string musicians. As a Board Member, you will help elevate young artists, expand access to the arts, and ensure the long-term sustainability of a vibrant cultural organization.

Who We’re Looking For
We welcome individuals from all backgrounds who are passionate about supporting the arts. However, in particular, we are actively seeking candidates with experience or connections in:
- Hospitality
- Legal
- Marketing and communications
- Development and fundraising
Whether you bring professional expertise, community connections, or a deep love of music, your perspective is valuable.
What Board Members Do
Board Members serve as ambassadors, advocates, and stewards of the organization. Responsibilities include:
- Helping define mission, strategy, and program priorities
- Ensuring strong governance, financial oversight, and legal compliance
- Supporting and evaluating organizational leadership
- Promoting the organization and expanding its network
- Supporting fundraising efforts
Commitment & Expectations
We rely on our board members to help us move the organization forward, so we ask board members to commit to the following. However, we are flexible on how you achieve these commitments, so please get in touch to learn more.
- Attend at least 75% of quarterly board meetings
- Serve on at least one committee (with regular participation)
- Attend at least one day of the annual competition in San Francisco
- Participate in at least two additional events annually
- Actively support fundraising efforts through outreach, events, or donor engagement
Additional Engagement Opportunities
Board Members are also encouraged to deepen their involvement by:
- Hosting events or artists
- Recruiting new supporters or board members
- Identifying sponsorship or funding opportunities
- Contributing in-kind expertise or resources
