The Irving M. Klein International String Competition is pleased to announce the promotion of Zoe Lin to the newly created role of Deputy Director, effective immediately. Zoe will be responsible for production of the Klein Competition, concerts and events, outreach, operations, and alumni relations. After seven years as executive director, Marcy Straw will now serve as Interim Executive Director, providing finance and resource development support.

“I feel so grateful to Mitchell Klein, the board, and the Klein community for welcoming me into the family this year. With my new responsibilities, I’m extremely excited to continue the Klein’s legacy, expanding our reach and audiences as we champion young musicians,” said Zoe.

Added Marcy, “It’s a pleasure to pass the baton to Zoe. I look forward to supporting her development in 2024. Her fresh perspective, deep understanding of our work, enthusiasm, and skills will be invaluable. I’m proud that we are investing in leadership to meet the future of the Klein and of our sector.”

The 39th Klein Competition takes place at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music June 1-2, 2024 where 8-9 young string players will compete for cash awards and performance contracts. Applications are open through Feb 3rd. Learn more: www.californiamusiccenter.org.

About Zoe
A 2022 graduate of the Columbia-Juilliard Exchange Program, Zoe earned degrees in English at Columbia and cello performance at Juilliard. She began studying cello at the age of five. At Juilliard, she was in the studio of Richard Aaron and previously studied with Michael Gelfandbein and Jonathan Koh. Performances include Kneisel Hall Chamber Music, Aspen Music Festival, Meadowmount School of Music, and Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra. Prior to joining the Klein, Zoe served in varied roles at From The Top, Idagio, the Columbia Music Performance Program, and Park Ave Artists. Zoe is based in Palo Alto, California.
